Abiquiu Program Site

Looking from the Santa Rosa de Lima ruins (remnants from an early 1700's Spanish settlement) along highway 84, across the verdant Rio Chama valley, the cream-colored, domed roof line of the Dar al Islam Mosque and Madressa simultaneously floats above and merges into the landscape. The juniper-studded mesa site is framed by the surrounding layers of arid hills and arroyos while in the distance often-snowcapped mountains linger among the scattered clouds that give one the enchanted vista Northern New Mexico is so well known for. Accessible from the highway via County Road 155 and a private access to the site, one enters a dimension of wonder, of awe, and for numerous people a space of contemplative silence, all of which instills a fertile ambience for the Dar al Islam programs.

Visitors are welcome during weekdays but are advised to call ahead and confirm (505 685 4515, ext.21).

Subject to our needs we consider requests by others to use the Dar al Islam facilities in Abiquiu for programs or workshops which are in allignment with our activities.
