Facilities Manager

We, at Dar al Islam (DAI), are looking for an energetic, motivated, and experienced facilities Manager to work on a full-time basis and manage the smooth and effective use of our 30,000 square foot campus on the mesa at 342 County Road 155, Abiquiu.  The key responsibilities of the Facilities Manager shall include the following:

  1. Be responsible for all staff that work in the facilities management department such as repair and maintenance staff, cleaning staff, construction/installation contractors, and others. Responsibilities include recommendations for hiring, guiding, training, disciplining, and recommendations for firing.
  2. Identify any challenges in structures, utilities, and equipment within the DAI facilities and develop action plans to repair and correct such challenges.
  3. Develop new plans for any upgrades to the facilities in areas of structures, water supply and treatment, power generation, communication systems, and other relevant systems and components thereof.
  4. Ensure that all facilities are clean, well resourced, and operational, complying with highest standard of quality, and usability.
  5. Identify, hire, supervise, and quality control the work of contractors that are assigned to undertake larger tasks within the DAI facilities.
  6. Prepare and submit monthly reports to the Executive Director (ED) of DAI.

Critical qualifications shall include the following:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering fields or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Hands-on worker, capable of identifying and solving issues in buildings and associated electrical, plumbing, and related issues.
  3. Ability to develop plans and manage staff, control budgets, and achieve set objectives.
  4. Experience in managing facilities is desirable.
  5. Experience in working in adobe structures is highly desirable.
  6. A strong track record or reliability, consistency, loyalty, and sense of responsibility.

Repair and Maintenance Personnel

We, at Dar al Islam, are looking for energetic, motivated, and qualified repair and maintenance personnel to work on full-time as well as on part-time basis to manage the repair and maintenance work at our 30,000 square foot campus on the mesa at 342 County Road 155, Abiquiu.  Basic required skills include in any or all of the following:

  1. Basic carpentry skills
  2. Basic mechanical and electrical skills
  3. Basic stucco and masonry skills
  4. Basic plumbing skills

We are looking for well-rounded handy-man type of people that can roll up their sleeves and get different jobs done.

DAR AL ISLAM
Position Description
Office Manager

Reports to: Executive Director

OBJECTIVE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Dar Al Islam (DAI) intends to centralize its administration and finance activities at its Abiquiu offices. To this end, an Office Manager is sought, who will be based at the Dar al Islam offices on the Mesa at 342 County Road 155 and will exert between 30 and 40 hours of work on a weekly basis. A qualified and motivated Office Manager is being hired, who will be responsible for the following activities:

1) Implement the administration and human resources policy of Dar al Islam.
2) Respond to phone calls, emails and undertake other basic administrative and communication activities.
3) Ensure that hourly staffers’ administrative and human resources needs are managed effectively and in a timely manner.
4) Ensure that all relevant documents are effectively stored (digitally or otherwise) and that documents’ archives are properly maintained.
5) Support the Facilities management team, under the guidance of the Executive Director and in collaboration with the Facilities Manager.
6) Support the media and PR team in creating and posting content for the DAI’s website and social media platforms and/or in creation of Newsletter, under the guidance of the Executive Director.
7) Support any other activities, external to the DAI, or internal thereof that enhance the work of DAI.
8) Undertake any other tasks that is assigned and delegated by the Executive Director.

Minimum Qualifications:
1) A college degree or equivalent experience
2) Minimum 2-years of experience in administrative and/or finance related fields.
3) Excellent computer skills including with Microsoft suits.
4) Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
