Project Sakinah
Stop Family Violence is an extensive project to support efforts to address domestic violence in the Muslim American community. We aim to stimulate awareness and action in the Muslim American community to “wake up” to the reality of the harm being done to our families, to learn to “speak up” in order to break the silence that surrounds the issue, and to “team up” with others to work to change our condition.
In response to a very public occurrence of domestic violence in the Muslim community in 2009, Dar al Islam decided to begin Project Sakinah. We are conducting research into the fabric of domestic violence with the Muslim community, the advocates, the victims, the allies; and a vast network of internet-based resources. It led to a concrete understanding of the barriers and the need for more support.
